The Roots of my life go back as far as my Great Grandfather.  Gardening is a gene that has been passed down in my family from generation to generation.  It serves as a metaphor for life.  Deep strong roots keep you firmly grounded in tradition, passion and happiness!

For years, I have served as a helpful role to those seeking inspiration, help, or advice. In 2020,  I finally decided to own that role and be intentional about it. I started writing about my passions, my thoughts, and curious wonderings about our society. I founded A farm girls life! with a mission to give others a taste of what goes on in my mind, and it has been a wild success ever since.

Fried Green Tomatoes

Updated: Oct 18, 2020

Gardening,Recipes, family, life . Hey all! How was your Tuesday! Another beautiful day in South West MO! After the Dental visit with the boys! It was lunch and nap for the boys (our favorite time of day!) So Tom and I went out to the garden and harvested the last of the tomatoes and flowers 💐! We ended up with a bowl full of red tomatoes, some still needed a little ripening. Then we filled a huge metal bowl with green tomatoes! I hate to waste them! So I looked up a recipe and we had a delicious dinner of pork chops, rice and for the first time ever fried green tomatoes! They were so good 👍! Here are some pictures and a recipe!

On the recipe you can't quite see it all. After slicing four green tomatoes in fairly thick slices first you mix 2 eggs 🥚 and 1/2 cup of milk 🥛 or buttermilk in one bowl, in another bowl add 1 cup flour, in the next bowl mix 1/2 cup cornmeal, 1/2 cup of bread crumbs, 2 tsp of salt, 1/4 black pepper. Heat up a skillet with about 1/2 inch of oil. Then dip tomatoes first in egg mix, then in flower, then cornmeal mix. Fry in medium hot oil, brown on both sides, drain on paper towels. Then enjoy! So go ahead! Give it a try! 😋 Yum!
